2005 SeasonIn the 2005 season Hicham didn't compete due to some health problems. Early in the year he had planned to run in the World Cross Country Championships 4km race versus Kenenisa Bekele of Ethiopia. He had also planned to run indoor track, 3000m races I believe. He was behind in his training, in part due to obligations after the Athens Olympics. He chose to train in the winter season instead of competing in race. He did this so he could more easily increase his fitness in preparation for the outdoor track season. He was planning to run the 1500m and/or 5000m at the World Championships in Helsinki. Also he wanted to obtain the world record in the 5000m race. In the early summer section of the track season he was preparing to race. Two early season races for him were scheduled in Hengelo and Eugene. The Hengelo 3000m versus the Kenyans Eliud Kipchoge, Isaac Songok, and Daniel Kipchirchir Komen was his first planned race. The Eugene Two Miles versus Kenyan Eliud Kipchoge was his second planned race. He pulled out of these two races beforehand due to a sickness and returned to training. He later planned to run in the Zaragoza 3000m race but pulled out before the race because he wasn't recovered enough from his illness. He was planning next to compete in the Helsinki World Championships in the 1500m and/or 5000m races. He pulled out of the meet beforehand, saying that he was physically prepared but not mentally prepared for the meet. He then took about a month off from training before starting to train for the 2006 season. He is planning to run the World Indoor Champs 3000m race, and then run outdoor races from 1500m to 5000m.
